Plead For Your Nation
Good Morning,
The book of Deuteronomy repeats much of the story from Egypt to the east side of the Jordan near Jericho. As I read about Moses and Israel, I am writing a few thoughts about prayer for our nation.
Deuteronomy 8:5-11 – Warnings not to forget how good God has been.
vs. 11 “Beware that thou forget not the LORD thy God, in not keeping his commandments, and his judgments, and his statutes, which I command thee this day:”
In chapter 9 God continues to warn them not to forget Who It was that gave them all of the things they enjoyed.
God also reminded them that they had been rebels, and they were far from deserving any Divine favor.
Deuteronomy 9:6 “Understand therefore, that the LORD thy God giveth thee not this good land to possess it for thy righteousness; for thou art a stiffnecked people.”
vs. 7 “Remember, and forget not, how thou provokedst the LORD thy God to wrath in the wilderness: from the day that thou didst depart out of the land of Egypt, until ye came unto this place, ye have been rebellious against the LORD.”
Next, He addresses prayer for the nation:
Deuteronomy 9:13 “Furthermore the LORD spake unto me, saying, I have seen this people, and, behold, it is a stiffnecked people:”
vs. 14 “Let me alone, that I may destroy them, and blot out their name from under heaven: and I will make of thee a nation mightier and greater than they.”
God asked Moses to leave Him alone to kill them all; Moses did not oblige.
vs. 26 “I prayed therefore unto the LORD, and said, O Lord GOD, destroy not thy people and thine inheritance, which thou hast redeemed through thy greatness, which thou hast brought forth out of Egypt with a mighty hand.”
There is much more to prayer, but you can understand the essence while reading this story. Moses pled with God to not give them what they deserved.
Today, we have the same right to come before God and to ask for mercy on a nation to whom God has been unbelievably good. Today, we have the honor to beg the Merciful Father for the lives of our young ones, widows, and the needy. We have the chance to pray that God will not place us under the authority of evil rulers. Do not miss this opportunity! Be the people who pray for their nation.
